                 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

                 Default Gateway:176.204.237.1

Question 1) a. What is the Class of this network?

                    b. Has this network been sub-netted? How do you know?

                    c. How many total hosts would there be on the above network? Show your work

                    d. How would this IP address be expressed using CIDR notation?

                    e. What is the range of the block of addresses this Host belongs to?

Explanation / Answer

Dear Student,

here is the answer..

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The given IP address = 176.204.237.37

Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Default Gateway:176.204.237.1

Answers....

a. What is the Class of this network?

Ans... The address belongs to class B network.

b. Has this network been sub-netted? How do you know?

Ans: No, The given address is not sub-netted because it's default subnet mask is equal to the given subnet mask i.e no host bits has been borrowed to cretae subnetwork.

c. How many total hosts would there be on the above network? Show your work

Ans:

As the default subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 i.e in binary = 11111111.11111111.11111111.0000000

So 1 = network bits

      0 = host bits

so you can see cleary that 8 bits have been used for host.

hence total host = 2N(N is the number of host bits)

                      = 28 = 256 -2 = 254 hosts

( 1 reserved for netwrok and 1 for broadcast hence we substract 2 address from the total addresses)

Ans = 254 hosts

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

d. How would this IP address be expressed using CIDR notation?

Ans..

CIDR notation of IP address = 176.204.237.37/24

e. What is the range of the block of addresses this Host belongs to?

Ans..

block size = 0-255 (host per network).
