Question
Consider a Bottom-Up versus Top-Down approach to construct development. Suppose we wanted to develop a construct called "Emotional Intelligencs (EI)". What would a Bottom-Up approach look like? Also, if using a Top-Down approach, who would the Subject Matter Experts be, and why? Finally, which approach if either do you think would provide a better basis for constructing a test of EI?Note: Thank you so much to whoever helps with this. I know that Top Down uses experts and Bottom Up uses real participants/focus groups but I am lost after that... Consider a Bottom-Up versus Top-Down approach to construct development. Answer:
Some traditional as well as Conventional approaches to manage has some valid reason over emotion, individual success over collective success, competition over collaboration, hierarchical control over team function, and conflict avoidance over conflict resolution. The introduction and application of emotional intelligence is based on top down and bottom up approaches to be implemented.Emotions can be a positive influence, that teamwork is a dimension of success of collaborative labor and decision making resulting the empowerment of employees with their responsibility rather than being controlled, for enhancement of the overall growth.
Though there has to be some difference between “bottom-up” and “top-down” emotional responsive approaches where Bottom-up approaches are immediate, entrenched responses to a stimulus like an instant and spontaneous feelings due to fear as response .
Bottom-up feelings are being generated in two steps:
(1) Occurring stimulus
(2)Immediate and instant feelings as response.
(3) Expressive
Top-down approaches are more conscious responses to handle a situation tactfully. (such as a feeling of anxiety before taking any bold decision). So it is much more logical than bottom up.
Top-down emotional approaches are being done in three steps:
(1) Occurring a stimulus
(2) Self-assessment, self-analysis what needs to be respond against situation
(3) Self thoughts about the stimulus.
(4) Judgmental attitude
(5) Empathetic perception
(6) Transparent and Responsible
Basically, managers are being acted as top down approach.
Top down approach in much more rational to tackel any emotional outcome as a response of any stimuli.
