Question

First, describe what an ERP is, or Enterprise Resource Planning information system (e.g., SAP, Oracle, etc.) Do ERP systems introduce higher risk to companies, or are these large systems the way to go? Do you use an ERP system at your firm? Describe your experiences with this system, and your views on if it contributes to firm success or not. Were you there when it was installed? How did the installation process go? Who are the leading ERP vendors? Do a little research and comment on what you find out about this important topic. Tell us about SAP? Tell us about Oracle? What is Microsoft's ERP offering? What is its history? Will cloud computing destry the ERP approach to systems? In other words, do you think that applications like Salesforce.com operating in the cloud with a per seat user fee take over from internally managed systems like SAP? This is a really interesting question, and you might need to know the answer as a senior manager.

Explanation / Answer

An ERP means Enterprice Resouce Planning system. It is system which manages all the process in the company and gives the central storage capability which means all the information in data will be stored centrally so that every thing under one place we can access any data about any department in the organisation from one central place.

No, ERP systems are never risk for the companies. Infact it gives very much flexibility in operation and managing data of all the process and departments across the organisation. It is very helpfull, the only thing is we need to setup this ERP systems correctly. It is very large system which doesn't suite for every organisation. It suits for the large organisation which manages different process and functionalities.

Yes, I use ERP systems daily in my office. It gives very much flexibility as well as very much security for the data. We can access any department data from one place. Rather than storing data seperatly and every time there is dependency for access the data it took time, to avoid this we use ERP system so that all the data is stored centrallr and the access has been given to this central storage according to the responsibility of job. In this way it takes very less time to access data and also faster in performance. Actually my job is to install this ERP systems and mantain this all the time as highly available without any problems that means I was there when ERP was installed in my firm.

The installation process is very critical and it takes days to install and setup the ERP systems.

The leading ERP vendors at this time is undoubtedly SAP,Microsoft etc..

SAP is a Company which provides ERP implementation and support. And the ERP Software they provide is also named SAP which is Systems Applications and Products in data processing. It is very large software and critical which manages all the organistion data. It has very good performance. It has different versions of systems and architectures which was developed and implemented one by one accroding to the organisations requirement. Currently SAP R/3 systems are in use which is a three tire architecture. It has different products like Netweaver systems, ECC systems like that.

Oracle is an organisation mainly into the database . Mostly oracle database is used in the SAP Systems. Though Oracle has its own ERP system implemented which is based on cloud. Oracle ERP Cloud is the oracle's ERP software. It is also the same as SAP software but it provides operations in cloud also. Oracle ERP Cloud is just implemented in 2012 however it is not as much successfull as SAP.

Microsoft have its own ERP names Microsoft Dynamix ERP. This is also same as SAP ERP but its primary focus is only on five sectors namely Finance, Manufacturing,Publuc sector, Retail and service industrty. It is also introduced in the year 2012. It has different products like Dynamics AX, Dynamics GP etc like this. This is not a successfull one. Only microsoft organisation and its clinets are the only one using this software.

Though there are many competencies like microsoft, Salesforce etc like this never going to be replacement for SAP. Because SAP has a broad range of servies which these Salesforce or etc will not handle. How ever salesforce only deals with the CRM systems. And SAP is having so many other things. And also SAP is also giving cloud services like other. It has already started its base in cloud environement also these days and is successfully implementing and providing its operations. SAP has the very long history and they manage number of serices which doesn't even get close by any other organisations
