The advantage to Text emails is that they are simple and are likely to work well with any email client. The disadvantage is that they are very simple looking and do not have the features of HTML base emails. HTML base emails allow you to compose an email with a structure similar to web pages. This gives the sender a lot of control over how the email will look. However, it is important to realize that an email client is not the same as a web browser. As you compose the email, you should keep in mind that many user block external content and there are features that you cannot use in email HTML. This article does a good job of identifying the limitations of email HTML
