My mother gave me the book Green Eggs and Honey and helped me read it. She bought this book at a grocery store. As I grew older, I discovered famous authors and different kinds of stories. Recently, I read all of the Harry Po tter books, and these are now my favorite books. The Harry Potter movies are very good, too. When I go to college, I hope to continue exploring the wonderful world of books. Lets understand the definitions of each first

Now, lets find few examples for each of them in the given paragraph:
1.the second sentence
"I first fell in love with books at age of 5,WHEN i was first learning to read"
notice the usage of dependency word WHEN, the first part is depdendent on the second part   
2. Look at the first sentence, "Reading is my favourite hobby", this is an independent statement, subject is the narrator and verb is reading
3.Look at the 3rd one
"My mother gave me the book Green,Eggs and Honey AND helpmed to read it,
here both these are independent clause being combined by the AND word.
4.This sentence
"As i grew older, I discovered famous authors and different kinds of stories"
this one has one indepedent statement i.e she discovered diff authors and there is a depdence on , "As she grew old" hence this is complex sentence
