Explanation / Answer

Traceroute tracks the path that a packet takes from the computerto a destination address. It also shows how many times your packetsare being rebroadcast by other servers until it gets to the finaldestination.

In the following example of the tracert command and its output, the packet travels through the 8 routers 202.164.41.2,192.168.253.101, 202.164.32.36, 203.145.138.137, 125.21.167.25,72.14.196.101, 216.239.43.228, 64.233.174.153 to reach thedestination 209.85.153.104

"Maximum of 30 hops" is how many routers the packet will gothrough to find the host. Default value is 30. This can be changedusing –h option.

tracert shows the IP address and hostname address of each hop, along with timing data for each hop.
