Suppose a computer sends a packet at the network layer toanother computer somewhere in the internet.   The lgoicaldestination address of the packet is corrupted. What happensto the packet? How can the ource computer be infoormed of thesituation.


I found a similiar question but it doesn't include the bit aboutthe network layer.

Would it be correct to say that the error wouldn't be detectedsince the datalink layer does error checking using checksum hammingetc while transport layer is worried about application toapplication.

Network layer uses TCP/IP which provides reliable data transfer.When the logical address is corrupted, the packet will be lost. TCPdetects the problem, and requests the source for retransmission oflost packets. Hence source comes to know about the packet loss andretransmits it.
