Explanation / Answer
One technology which exists today in healthcare IT tread but is not in widespread adoption is the use of artificial intelligence in health information technology. I see it as an emerging trend because an increasing number of small HIT vendors are using artificial intelligence for solving specific niche problems in healthcare.
One future trend where technology does not currently exist is insert-able cardiac monitors that not only record the patient’s rhythm and other parameters but also transmit them in real time to the health care center. The data will automatically be monitored and if any warning signs occur the healthcare personnel and the patient will be alerted. This will be of value because, in case of heart-related conditions, early intervention including alerting the patient can save lives.
Wearable devices in future will monitor the full diet of a person including his calorific intake, protein intake, vitamin intake, and mineral intakes. The device will also show the person the items which have not yet been included in the person’s diet so that he can modify his diet during the day, so that diet targets are achieved. This trend will help the future US healthcare industry because correct diet on a day to day basis will reduce the incidence of disease and will reduce the overall health cost to America.
