Question
Amazon is going after Nike: Amazon has released private-label sportswear brands (such as Rebel Canyon and Peak Velocity) this year that could rival the likes of Nike and Lululemon, Bloomberg reports, citing data from L2 researchers. Amazon, with a growing arsenal of private-label fashion brands, has been making progress in the industry: According to a recent Alphawise study, 69% of Americans have purchased clothing on the platform in the past six months. That’s a 10% increase from a year ago. Amazon is also expected to overtake Macy’s as the nation’s biggest apparel seller by the end of 2017, Cowen & Co. predicted earlier this year. • Share your thoughts: #AmazonSportswear What might Nike be able to do??
Explanation / Answer
It is very hard to compete against a company like Amazon (currently one of the most important companies in the world, the CEO is on the top 3 richest persons in the world), however Nike is not a small company, most athletes worldwide use Nike sportswear, it is very popular with professional basketball and football players, therefore customers also purchase their products because they follow these players and professional teams. Nike needs to secure more teams and players in order to sell more of their shoes and sportswear and don’t fall behind amazon.
If possible, review their manufacturing and distribution process to try to reduces them and be able to provide better prices to compete against Amazon.
