Text effects are a new feature in word 2010. This feature allows you to edit text in numerous ways in order for you to draw attention to that particular text. This feature would not be used for all the text within a documnent and in fact would most likely never be used in a professional technical document. In my opinion it expands the capabilities of the wordart function in word. Wordart was limited in it's functionality. Text effect would most likely be used in a flyer. It allows the average user to create and edit a document that can have some pizazz. I have no use for this function as I mostly create professional documents and have never required a function like this. I would prefer to boldface, italicize or underline the text that needs attention to it.
Explanation / Answer
to prefer to boldface, italicize or underline the text that needs attention to it. just select the text you need and right click on it.and then you find a box with "B" and "I" you can select or unselect them and you can change the text into Boltface or Italic . For underlining go to Home menu in menu bar and you find a small box with B,I,U and by selecting the text and then on clicking those buttons you can Bolt it or Itailicize it or Underline it respectively
