Could someone please provide assist to my question.
This is the question:When we look at Corporate Social Responsibility, think about some of the companies you frequent. When looking at these companies, do they put forth a message that they are socially responsible? If so, how? Do you feel that they are doing so to "help their fellow man", or simply to make a profit? Support your answer.
Here is my answer:
Among the big oil companies, BP is probably the company with the highest CSR profile. The company is one of the first Transnational companies to endorse a human rights policy and for its transparency in allowing public scrutiny of its operations and regular reporting of its social and environmental impact . BP's social responsibility is good business, driven by practical commercial reality and hardheaded business logic. The company strategically positioned itself as a market leader in environmental and social responsibility , with a high profile and hugely successful " Beyond petroleum " public relations campaign . The company is looking beyond petroleum and making investments in other sectors of energy i.e solar power to position itself as an environmental friendly corporation.

Here is my classmate response:While BP might now have an excellent CSR profile, at one point in time, they did not. How has BP move passed the Gulf Oil Spill of 2005 to better improve its overall image? How might having gone through this event have lead to this change in philosophy?
I need a reply to there questions.
Thanks in advance
Explanation / Answer
Q1) Below is how BP has moved past the Gulf Oil spill to better improve its overall image -
1. BP continued increasing its investments in renewable energy sector like wind and biofuels while ensuring its current business is on top in sustainability pratices.
2. It is ensuring that its business units are regularly reporting on sustainability front.
3. The firm is working on better safety metrics, enhanced training and development programs, new integrity monitoring systems etc. to ensure these kind of disasters are avoided and contained in future.
Q2) Having gone through this event might have changed the philosophy of doing sustainable business for BP. On safety front, the firm is ensuring that all the mitigation measures are in place for any future events and is putting systems in place to completely avoid these kind of events in the first place.
