The Internet is one of the greatest technology innovations and is being used for so many good things. However, along with the good comes the bad. Illegal gambling, child pornography, illegal drug sales, cyber warfare are also due to the internet.Think of ways other GOOD technologies have been used for not so good purposes. Share personal examples if you have some.  

There were some privacy issues with Pharmanet....but were the privacy issues outweighed by the good that could come from using Pharmanet...or would you have shut it down because of the privacy issues?

Information Technology in today's world has become an indispensable part of our lives. This has led to the world becoming 'flatter' which means that internet has helped us to overcome geographical boundaries. Outsourcing is a direct result of this IT revolution in the first decade of 21st century.It has also narrowed cultural gaps. The ease in dissemination and exchange of digital content in the form of news, videos and music has brought the wold closer and integrated it.

However, internet has brought it's own set of issues. With the recent cyberattack in June which impacted many multinational companies like Maersk, Reckitt Benkieser and Beiersdorf has demonstrated the risks that this interconnectivity poses. With a virus that originated in Ukraine, the various affiliates of these organisations across the world faced an entire shutdown of IT systems and the work was hampered for a substantial period. One of these companies Maersk Line is one of the biggest shipping logistics company in the world, which has played a major role in integrating global markets by Trade.

Similarly, the privacy breach on Pharmanet is an issue of concern. However, the argument to curtail the use of internet and technology because of such incidents is like a doctor advising to kill a person with a fever. The need of the hour is to bring in more secure and robust IT systems that are immune to such attacks. Limiting the use of internet is an idea which is regressive. We must look forward to improving efficiency, reducing redundancy and increasing automation and better connectivity by the use of Internet and Technology.
