Could someone please provide assistance:
This is the topic question:When we look at Corporate Social Responsibility, think about some of the companies you frequent. When looking at these companies, do they put forth a message that they are socially responsible? If so, how? Do you feel that they are doing so to "help their fellow man", or simply to make a profit? Support your answer.
This is my reply to the question:Among the big oil companies, BP is probably the company with the highest CSR profile. The company is one of the first Transnational companies to endorse a human rights policy and for its transparency in allowing public scrutiny of its operations and regular reporting of its social and environmental impact . BP's social responsibility is good business, driven by practical commercial reality and hardheaded business logic. The company strategically positioned itself as a market leader in environmental and social responsibility , with a high profile and hugely successful " Beyond petroleum " public relations campaign . The company is looking beyond petroleum and making investments in other sectors of energy i.e solar power to position itself as an environmental friendly corporation.
This is my classmate reponse:I think all of the major oil companies have been doing a lot in regards to CSR. However, BP had a long way to go following the oil spill. In addition, many other oil companies were viewed in a negative manner after the spill. This was an eye opening experience for BP and many in the industry. Many different companies have changed drastically following the oil spill and have learned from BPs mistakes. I live in Louisiana and remember the negative image BP received following the oil spill. Even many years later, BP continues to have a negative image in Louisiana.

Explanation / Answer
Disaster can be classified in two categories one is man-made and another is not human induced. If we analyse the BP oil spills on 2010 which is the largest accidental oil leak in world history was not human induced. No one in BP was expecting such disaster in his worst dream. It was a difficult fact to digest by even BP that due to the oil spills the natural ecosystems surrounding the Gulf of Mexico was affected badly which includes the flora-fauna and marine animal.Nothing can pay the cost of it. But being a socially responsible organization BP paid a fine of whoping $20.8 billion for the disaster which is highest in USA. After happening of an accident which was not human induced we can know the intention of an organization by how much ethically committed it is.BP is still now doing to restore the eco-system which it damaged due to the spill.
