A PROGRAM TO BE WRITTEN IN MATLAB

Write a computer program Matlab that simulates Betz’s Law. Using your computer model to demonstrate that the theoretical maximum amount of kinetic energy that can be extracted from the wind (59.3%) occurs when the ratio of the (downstream wind speed):(upstream wind speed) = 1:3.

Write a program (based on Betz’s Law) that will model Betz’s Law. The programming language is Matlab The program must meet the following minimum requirements:

The program must be structured with clear input, output, and computational processing sections.

Documentation for the program must be embedded in the program.

Produce a plot that illustrates Betz’s Law (see Figure 1). The plot must be properly titled, axis labeled and identified. (NOTE: if your programming language does not provide the graphing capabilities needed to produce the plot illustrated in Figure 1, then the program must produce a table of values equivalent to the plot).

The x-axis variable must use a minimum of 100 steps.

The program must identify the maximum of the curve.

The program must identify the point at which the maximum occurs.

Figure 1 – Plot of Betz’s Law (P/Po versus v2/v1)

P = Power remaining in the wind downstream of the wind turbine

PO = Initial power available in the upstream wind

v1 = Velocity of the upstream wind

v2 = Velocity of the downstream wind
