Explanation / Answer

I have chosen a hospital organization to study the challenges or issues these organizations are facing because at the hospital level, hospitals are merging into other hospitals and independent hospitals are finding it more challenging to thrive on their own. There are greater concerns that need to be addressed for such type of healthcare unit.

Issues, their causes and impact on the whole organization.

1) Hiring physicians are more expensive now days as compared to the average productivity these physicians are contributing towards the hospitals. This means the losses on professional fees are more significant, and it is harder to "make up the numbers" on the technical side. Here are likely to be significant physician shortages in many markets, doctors may retain significant market power in connection with their relationships with hospitals and other entities. This will be very market dependent.

2) Hospitals are not clear about whether they will be able to survive as independent entities over the next several years. The main causes for such issue leading to bankruptcy are mismanagement, increased competition and significant reimbursement changes. The hospitals should have substantial physician alignment strategy rather than being dependant on free agent physicians. It must have significant capital investment in order to be independent
