Human Capital Management is almost synonymous with Human Resource functions of an organization. The basic objective of each and every business organization is to generate the maximum amount of revenue which will incur profit to the company and it can be stated that a business organization generally deals with three types of stakeholders namely Employees, Employers and Customers or clients. The organization should possess a positive attitude towards all the stakeholders because the actual result of the business depends on all of them. Human Capital Management generally looks after the well being of the employees of an organization so that the tenure of the employees are hassle free which will make productivity better.
The term is very much popular and majority of the population are aware of it because currently it is considered as a one stop solution for all the problems that we experience. The organization started its operation in the year 1998 and was one of the search engines then but it has come a long way in these years and is now a technology giant which technical products and services, online advertisement, search engine and cloud computing being its unique selling product. It can be stated that currently it has no such rivals in its industry because of various factors and one Human Capital Management has to be a primary factor.
As mentioned that the basic objective of Human Capital Management is to manage the employees so that the employees are satisfied in the organization resulting in better productivity, therefore it can be inferred that Human Capital Management is not only looking after these but indirectly the employers and the customers or clients are also being looked after. All three stakeholders are related and if one of them is unhappy the relationship is bound to get affected resulting in loss. There are various Human Capital Management practices that google follow and these practices makes the organization unique and different from others and the organization creates an impact not only on the industry but also on the people. The practices are:
It can be noticed that the Human Capital Management practices of google differ from other organizations and it is a very important aspect for Google's success in the industry. For example in 2006-2007 it was noticed that the attrition rate in google was very high for female employees compared to the male employees and this did not go unnoticed from the People's Analytics team, they conducted their survey and noticed that employees who have just been mothers are leaving the organization, Google then provided 12 weeks of paid leave which was the company standard but to resolve the issue Google provided 5 full months of paid leave which can be availed by the mother according to her needs and the mother can also come back for part time initially if she wants to and then she may join full time. The example proves that the Human Capital Management of this organization is unique unlike others.
