Question

Provide 300 words

The just-war theory considers a war acceptable when it satisfies several stringent criteria: The war must be fought for a just cause, the motives must be good, it must follow a call from a legitimate authority, and the use of force must be based on necessity (as a last resort). Central to notions of a just war are the principles of noncombatant immunity and proportionality. Noncombatants are those who will not be actively participating in combat and therefore do not need to be killed or restrained. Proportionality addresses the extent of damage or consequences allowable in terms of need and cost. Describe a scenario for the conduct of a just war and describe the kinds of weapons engineers might have to develop to wage one. a. b. In your view, is the U.S. war on terrorism a just war? Explanation / Answer

A.

One of the scenario where a war is just when a country invades to grab the land or take control of the land, as the main purpose here is to grab the land to have free access to the several resources, like oil and other natural resources. So to prevent this unfortunate capture a war can be waged as this would be protecting own territory and is a fully just cause.

So, Afghanistan and Iraq were just in fighting back the war on US, as US started the war to provide these countries freedom from dictators, but once the problem was solved the government should have been allowed to form and US should have pulled back, but US remained in those countries to exploit the natural resources.

In such a scenario the weapons should be only to frighten and not to cause harm on a larger scale. The use of force should be limited to drive the enemy back and not to cause mass killings.

So, the usage of mass destruction weapons are never required, as in most wars the impact is through small scale damage that sets precedent and the enemy withdraws, which has happened in the case of US attacking Iraq, with small attacks the dictatorship was ended and so the purpose was done and the war should have ended.

So, there should be limited development of weapons and there should never be any development of mass destruction weapons.

B.

Yes, the US war on terrorism is a just war. As it is for the greater good, where people will be protected and will not have to stay in constant fear and have freedom to live without worries. This is intended to make the lives of people secure and improve the standard of living and remove the fear and anxiety from the mind of the citizens.
