Question - What are some challenges leaders face when managing employee diversity in organizations?

Answer – Diversity comes with diverse employees. These diverse employees are basically the native of different locations of the country or world, who brings different and unique qualities with them and which helps in better innovation and quality in the process and products of the organization.

When manager supervise these diverse employees, he faces lot of challenges. The reason for facing the challenges is that the diverse employees have diverse thought processes and has their diverse believes which are difficult for the manager to understand adequately and react accordingly.

Following are the key challenges a manager faces as below

1.     Understanding diverse employees – The main challenge for manager is his inability to understand the thought process and believes of diverse people, this lack him in proper react with them.

2.     Common Language Issue – Since the diverse employees use their native languages, which are different, so it is difficult for manager to have adequate conversation with all diverse employees.

3.     Motivational Issue – Since the diverse people have different believe and culture, so it is difficult for manager to motivate the diverse team, with a common agenda or technique.

4.     Problem Understanding issue – The manager faces a challenge in understanding the problem of the employees, as the nature of their problems are different.

5.     Repo development Issue – The manager faces a challenge in developing a personal repo with the employees and it impact their relations.

Question (2) - What are some potential solutions to those challenges?

Answer (2) –

·       Solution (1) – The manager needs to understand the cultural and social environment of the diverse employees, so that he can understand the employees in better way and can develop the required solution for their problems.

·       Solution (2) – The manager needs to have some understanding of their local language so that he can interpret from their local conversation and he looks to be comfortable dealing with employees in their local language.

·       Solution (3) – The manager needs to understand the ways of improving the employees as per their local thoughts, believes, culture and social status. The manager can travel to their local region for understanding the same.

·       Solution (4) – The Manager needs to understand the problems of their employees in better way , may be by discussing with them and spending more time with them. This will help the manager to develop better repo with them and understand their problems in better way.
