tachment . Describe the term Big Data. Pick one of the bullets from who benefits from big data? on page 332 and use that item as a context to describe how you see big data . Look at exhibit 12.1 on page 336 in your text Using the different information systems described on pages 341-350 (EIS, GSS, GIS), choose one for each of the being used in an organization with which you are familiar three levels of the triangle. Describe how the type of IS you've chosen for each level applies to the speific type of decisions made at that level

Explanation / Answer

Big data is data sets which are so voluminous and complex that traditonal data processing software are inadequate to deal with them. These extremely large data sets are analysed computationally to reveal patterns, trends, and associations, especially relating to human behaviour and interactions.

Big data used in manufacturing units:

Mobile phone manufactures like Apple, Samsung uses Big data analyse to predict the usability of some features. As the trend they have made phone slimmer and faster as per the inforamtion gathered from users. They collect data through usage of typical apps, AI assistance and many other ways. Based on TCS 2013 Global Trend Study, improvements in supply planning and product quality provide the greatest benefit of big data for manufacturing.

Example: Apple user need faster charging so they change to fast charging method so did the other companies. These companies also uses Big data for marketing.

EIS uses Strategical Management

Executive Information Systems tend to be highly individualized and are often custom made for a particular client group; however, a number of off-the-shelf EIS packages do exist and many enterprise level systems offer a customizable EIS module.

They help executives and senior managers analyze the environment in which the organization operates, to identify long-term trends, and to plan appropriate courses of action. The information in such systems is often weakly structured and comes from both internal and external sources. Executive Information System are designed to be operated directly by executives without the need for intermediaries and easily tailored to the preferences of the individual using them.

GSS uses Strategical Management of IS.

As GSS reduces communication barrier, brainstorm the ideas and plant the new location. Basically when ever group discussion is required GSS is used, to solve a critical problem, brainstorming new ideas. Companies uses Strategical way and deploy new way for doing group discussion like microsoft did by implementing Groupware.

GIS uses Tactial and Strategical Management of IS.

As GIS uses geographical based method to deploy new stores or new ideas it used both of the management. Strategical management is used for new mergers or new ideas and then Tactial management is used for where could sales be bosted according to Graphs. Application used for GIS is Google Maps.
