Question
The approach of any company should be customer-centric instead of business-centric. This rule basically answers this question. The customer should be happy with the product or service the company is offering. If it takes outsourcing of core business activities then the company should go ahead with it. The only reason to recommend this step should be the value outsourcing is adding to the company's service offerings.
We also need to consider the threats of doing this. The core business activities include the entire strategy of the company to run the business. So there are definitely a large number of risks involved. A small mistake can also ruin the entire image of the company and can lead to bankruptcy. So the companies need to find a trusted partners who can handle the business activities and also provide the assurance that the company is not at risk. A lot of banks still go to the companies for the advice on asset management and investment planning. They still are very successful and ruling their specific industry. The interface teams of both the companies need to be very loyal and committed to work. This can definitely do wonders for the company and take them on the right path to success.
I am not strongly supporting this but the companies can only become successful by providing what the customers need. Don't forget that "The customer is the king". So keep this option open and go ahead with it when you find a right partner for outsourcing. It is better kept confidential as it can harm the image of the company when it goes public. It might also show the incompetence of the top management at the company. So at the end of the day, it all depends on the planning ability of the company and how well they can manage the relationship with outsourcing partners in the eyes of the public.
