Adversarial relationships or conficts are fact of life. Though it is seen as a destructive force, Southwest used them as a constructive force. The company is very proactive in identifying and resolving conflicts. They have defined process for it.
1. Parties themselves are allowed in first place to resolve their own conflicts by themselves. If they are not able to do it, Manager will take active participation in bringing the solution to conflict.
2. An information sharing meeting is held to hear both the sides of the conflict and many conflict gets resolved during this phase due to better communication achieved.
3. If a conflict is still unresolved then manager holds one-to-one meeting which takes up whole day and generally all the conflicts are resolved by this stage.
By resolving conflicts, organization builds better relationships among its employees and teams to achieve best performance at the end of the day. This way resolving conflicts results into improved performance which is beneficial to the organization while for employees,it bring harmony at workplace rather than building grudges against each other.
