Online ticket reservation system is a big step towards reducing human efforts by booking your ticket without the need of visiting the ticket shop. The process is very simple, you just have to visit the web portal of the travelling agency and login to their portal in order to avail the facilities provided by them. Once you are logged in, you can check the places where you want to visit, then by selecting the place, you can book the number of the seats required for the journey. These vendors also provide some add-on services on the journey such as Meal, cancellation of the tickets or safety insurance while the journey etc.
The online reservation system, basically needs to perform following functions.
1. Reservation Management
2. Fare Management
3. Timetable Management
The following sub functions should also be provided by the system.
1. Reservation and cancellation of the the seats by the passenger
2. Information about the available medium of transport such as either a train, a bus, a car or a plane.
3. The information about the passengers should be recorded by the system..
4. The details of each transaction done by the customer.
5. Any details about the reservation fees, cancellation charges, offers available, any concession etc.
6. Updates of the uptime and downtime of the vehicle.
The system has some major advantages over the physical system such as :
1. Searching of the available medium of the transport becomes very easy :
We no longer have to rely on the agents to tell us which medium of the transportation we should use. the system does all the work for us, we just have to set the source and the destination, and the rest will be taken care by the system itself. If we want to travel by the train we just select the train and the system will eliminate the other options by itself such as car, or a plane.
2. Provides a Fare table
The online reservation system also provides fare tables for the passengers which gives a brief knowledge about the available vehicle, departed vehicle and the future reference of the available vehicle.
3. Chances of the system making mistakes is quite a less
The system is prone to make any mistakes, since all the work is done by the machine (in this case a server) there are less likely chances of making any errros.
The online reservation system comprises of various Utilities. Few of them are described below. plus a good quality user interface should be made so that it will give a better look to the system.
