Explanation / Answer
Cloud Storage Services
I have visited Google Drive, an online cloud storage service provider and also other providers like SpiderOak and Mega. Google Drive provides up to 15GB of free storage to its Google-mail users. Above that it costs $1.99 per month for 100GB of storage. And $9.99 per month for 1 TB of storage. For above 10 TB, it costs $99.99 per month. Meanwhile Mega gives cloud storage of 15 GB free and $5.79 monthly for 200GB.
Google Drive has an interactive user interface. We can upload files simply using drag and drop. It has a folder syncing option. It has file sharing option. Instead of sending a whole file, we can share it to a person using a link and we can decide the access like view-only etc. It has an easy recovery process, incase the user forgets the password. Also, there is no encrypted protection on Google Drive.
Mega also has a file sharing option and neat interface. It also has a folder syncing option. Its services are encrypted on the client side using AES encryption algorithm. Even Mega doesn’t know the encryption key, so nobody can read the files except the user. If the user forgets the password, there is no way to recover the files unless he/she has the recovery key backed up.
Nobody can view the files on the cloud except the user. Unless the user shares the files with others, they are safe and secure.
The benefits of these cloud storages are:
There are some drawbacks to these services:
If we want to use these cloud storage services, it is better to encrypt the data by ourselves and then upload it to the cloud. We can use an open source encryption utility like VeraCrypt. Also option like two factor authentication should be enabled in mail services like Google-mail which is base for Google Drive. We should use strong passwords. These services can be useful when we want to access our files from a remote location. But one should be cautious. If not, it could fall into wrong hands.
