Module #8 Discussion
Comment on this statement by former Chrysler Chairman Lee lacocca: If a guy wants to be chief executive 25 or 50 years from now, he will have to be well rounded. There will be no more of "Is he a good lawyer, is he a good marketing gu, is he a good finance guy?" His education and experience will make him a total enterpreneur in a world that has turned into a huge market. He better speak Japanese or German, he better understand the history of both of these countries and how they got to where they are, and he better know their economics pretty cold. Elaborate. Support your answer with facts/reasoning.

Explanation / Answer
Module 8 Discussion
The statement by Lee Lacocca could be agreed to a large extent. Because it is neither based on possessing any particular trait, qualification, or experience. It is a culmination of all these together. In short, a prospective CEO has to possess the right skills, qualification in terms of education, and much amount of expertise in his area through knowledge and experience.
He should have educational qualifications and experience closely related to the industry where he would be working in future.
In terms of skills, he should possess excellent leadership skills, technical skills, knowledge and expertise for taking right decision.
A CEO should possess good communication skills, and should have the ability to work under pressure. Therefore, he should have an excellent emotional quotient.
A CEO may have to interact with companies in different geographic areas. Knowledge of various language is not a must, but will definitely benefit him and will give a cutting edge over other potential candidates.
But there are also counter arguments in this regard. There are people who had become CEOs of their own companies at a very young age. This is largely based on their skills and expertise in their chosen field rather than educational qualifications. Their knowledge and experience will grow with age too. Thus it can also be said that becoming a CEO is all about possessing skills and expertise in their area. But this applicable when someone is starting their own company.
There are many example to quote, but a popular person could be Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook.
Module 8 Assignment
According to the statistics, the national debt of US from 2012 to 2016 has been steadily on rise. (couldn’t find the statistics of 2010 and 2012). The amount of debt in 2012 was USD 16.70 trillion, with a steady increase till 2016. USD 17.60 trillion in 2013, USD 18.31 trillion in 2014, further increased to USD 19.1 trillion in 2015, and USD 19.95 trillion in 2016. US could be a debtor nation because the projected debts till 2020 is a steadily rising figure.
The debt is mainly accounted due to the enormous rate of unnecessary spending and expenses as a result of it.
US has also documented a trade deficit because its exports were very low compared to its imports. This trade deficit was recorded for a period of ten years from 2010 to 2015. However, it is a matter of relief that its trade balance had a better figure in 2009, after the recession 2008. This could reduce the total trade deficit in 2009.
