Question
You are in charge in designing the network for a medium size business. The business is located in a single building with three floors. The first floor has 120 PCs, the second floor has 120 PCs, and the third floor has 250 PCs. In addition each floor will need to support VOIP phones and printers. For each PC there will also be a VOIP phone. Lastly each floor will have at least 50 printers. All devices will have their own IP address, but the VOIP phones and printers do not need to access the Internet. Your business has been allocated 66.250.0.0/23 IP address space by the ISP to connect to the Internet. The ISP has also allocated an IP address to your external router for connecting to their router. That IP address is 66.250.255.254/30. You may also use RFC 1918 address space as needed.
Your design needs to use generic network equipment. Assume the router(s) have the number of interfaces you need. Also assume the switches only support one network per switch and have 48 ports on each switch. You will need to diagram out the network with the network information, structure of the network, IP address information, and connectivity to the ISP. Assume Ethernet for the link types with the business purchasing 100Mbs of Ethernet to the ISP. You will make the rest of the decisions concerning the number of Ethernet links and their bandwidth. The business out-sources its servers and wireless, so you do not need to include them. The network diagrams are to be done in PowerPoint using the network icons provided. The PowerPoint needs to be easily viewed and not cluttered. I do not need an icon for every PC, phone, etc. So you will need to find a way to convey the information compactly. The write up on the project explaining the diagram and how the overall structure supports the requirements of the project will be done in Word.
: for budgetary purposes, assign $1 for each public IP address assigned, $1 per megabit of bandwidth for each router link and $5,000 for each switch, and $500 for each access point. You must justify all design decisions in your write-up and illustrate them in the presentation.
Explanation / Answer

2. No overlapping subnets.
3. Subnets are correctly sized.
4. Clear diagram(s) that accurately conveys the network architecture.
5. Clear write-up that describes the decisions made.
6. Clear justifications of the decisions in the write-up.
7. Appropriate use of public / private IPs
8. Appropriate use of routers.
9. Appropriate use of switches.
10. Appropriate use of Aps. (Graduate Students)
