Question
Tablet Recommendation:
Preparation Imagine the following scenario: A hospital has hired you as a consultant to recommend a tablet for their employees to use, with these parameters:
The hospital provides wifi access to their patients and staff.
The staff uses a cart with a computer on it to enter in patient data; the cart is bulky and hard to maneuver.
The hospital is seeking better alternatives to the computer cart.
The hospital staff carries Cisco IP phones so that they are easily reachable.
The network is fully operational and connects to the Internet. Instructions The hospital has asked you to write a 3–5 page white paper recommending the best tablet for their employees.
As your write your white paper: Discuss potential security issues with iPads, Android, and Windows 8 tablets.
Consider laws and regulations related to health care and IT, such as HIPAA regulations.
Consider the local and global implications of your choices.
Compare the pros and cons of different types of tablets as a hardware device.
Compare the pros and cons of different types of tablets in regard to the operating system.
Consider the different peripherals used to connect to the devices.
The hospital requires these devices to be able to use a keyboard and mouse, and to connect to an external monitor (HDMI port).
After reviewing all of these considerations, provide a recommendation to the hospital about the device you recommend.
Include your reasoning as to why you selected the device you did. Describe how the concepts and activities presented in the labs this week relate to this assignment.
Explanation / Answer
The tablet choice can be made according to specification related to different operating systems, different size, power, RAM size etc.
But in context of using devices in hospital for patients records, it would be best to choose one which would provide best portability, power, complete wifi, easy data transfer.
Operating system
Apple iOS: known for big screen and smoother touch but don't have USB port.
Android: most popular one with great customizability and largest app store.
Microsoft Windows: compatible with Windows OS, best is dual USB port provided.
In context of sizes, tablets come in sizes from 5 to 12 inches. But for the hospital staffs, large screen should be given. But very large is difficult to manage so better option to opt size 7 to 8 inches.
Ram comes with 4gb to 8gb mostly, and for browsing or email working which is actually needed for hospital records transfer, only 1 to 4 GB is sufficent.
Coming to wifi connectivity, thre are two vesions come. One support 802.11b/g and aother support 802.11h. If hospital system needs more download through wifi connectivity , secod one wil be preferable.
So,the best would be Android which is more flexible in transferring files.and light in weight than Windows OS and comes in manageable sizes than iPad.
