Security requirements are those nonfunctional requirements of the architecture design that deals with the issues related to security like protection of the information system from any sever damage or data loss. This can occur due to intentional or unintentional events. These are further classified as system value estimates, access control requirements, encryption and authentication requirements and virus control requirements.
The sharing of resources and information among managers and common employees should be carried out in a particular manner. The important information which is related to organization should not be visible to everyone. The access of data should be provided according to levels. For this secured VPN is recommended. For a secured VPN, identity authentication and data encryption are two important features. It is easy for hackers to exploit open network, more over when data is travelling over internet it gets more vulnerable. VPN and server software documentation should be reviewed so that strongest protocols for authentication and encryption are in use.
The network design is having three public black & white and one color printer. It is possible that user may misuse the color printer. Thus, this color printer should have restricted access. Another important thing is that managers have to print important documents and if all the printers are busy, then, they have to wait. For this condition, a dedicated printer is allocated to managers.
In end, I would like to conclude that the suggestion of firewall, anti-virus and VPN is good but only in those cases where it will not affect the financial position of the company as a whole. Other factors are also relevant so they should also be considered while making the decision.
