Even the best plan and strategy can run into some problems. When working with employees this can be especially true and various problems can be introduced from outside.   Suppose a training program had a significant influence on the behavior of the employees and new hires but did not influence the results of the organization, such as profitability, productivity, or costs. What could have gone wrong? Does this mean that the training was ineffective? What can be done to monitor and correct this? Any personal experiences?

Explanation / Answer

Generally any training is expected to improve the target parameters if all other condition remains same. But if there is a change in other surrounding or system, a training mightnot improve the target parameter.

This doesn't necessarily mean that the training was ineffective, rather the training has played its part, it's just that something else went wrong which impacted the result of the training.  

You can correct the issue by working on the factors that resulted in the declining of other factors. You need to understand those factors in order to solve them. But to monitor the effect of the training you should set some long term goals (for around one year or six month) or get a project for the trainees and see how they perform. That way you can understand what was the effect of the training.

On shop floor you will often observe that suppose a person received a training on Continuous Improvement but when he goes to applying the concept at his workstation, the effect might not seem that good because the existing condition is uncontrollable or has changed, or perhaps you can't make an immediate change to the system. Hence the effect of the training is not evident. But over a period of time the change can be seen.
