The above link talks about an issue which is most debated across the world; slavery and human trafficking.
The modern slavery policies and supplier contractual requirements is one which demonstrates creative thinking from the point of view of the company. The reason one feels that it is applying creative thinking here is that it is making sure that not only they but their suppliers and licensees also follow the policies. The reason that this is a good move is the third parties are not as famous. In case, they are caught doing something shady they will not be in as much trouble as much as Levi as it is a bigger name and more mileage can be gained out of cornering such a big organization in comparison to a lesser known supplier. By making sure that their suppliers and all also follow these guidelines they have made sure that their name also does not get tarnished.
The aspects that can be used are:
Levi should carry out some activity in poorer countries where they are functioning and using local suppliers or retail stores. An activity like school for the children of the underprivileged suppliers or licensees.
They can offer clothes at a lower rate to their suppliers and licensees.
For some good suppliers they can reward with some attractive package which makes them more loyal to Levis
When we talk about creative thinking – certain terms come to the fore; like lateral thinking, thinking out of the box and so on. The idea is to do something different or more for the people around you which makes them feel special and makes them work harder for you. The above three aspects will push the suppliers and licensees to follow the corporate policies laid down by Levi as they will not want to lose such a big project like Levis. Moreover, these extra perks will act like motivators to make sur that policies laid down by Levis are followed so that they can continue to impress their purchaser.
Using the theory of Graham Wallas where he states five stages of creative thinking:
Preparation – here Levis sees the problem is their name could get tarnished if anyone associated with them gets caught doing something which is against the policies that is stated by them.
Incubation – Levis makes sur that it takes steps to make sure that their image is unharmed
Intimation – they prepare to make plans to make the suppliers and licensees more involved
Illumination – they mention about these ideas to their suppliers
Verification – they monitor if these ideas are working or not
