Question
A teacher in South Carolina left her phone on her desk while completing madatory " Hallway duty " (patrolling the hallway to make sure students get to class on time) in between classes at her high school. A student grabbed the phone and opened the photo gallery, eventually finding nude photos of the teacher. He used his phone to take pictures of the images and shared them throughout the school. The Head of school district has said that the teacher " was in the wrong because her phone was unlocked and she made the nude pictures available to her students." The teacher was given the option to ether resign or be fired - she resigned. she is now pressing charges agaisnt the school district. What is your initial reaction to this story? Now, how would you react if you were : a) the teacher b) the student c) the student's parent d) any other student at the school e) any other student's parent f) the head of the districtSocial issues and ethic in computing A teacher in South Carolina left her phone on her desk while completing madatory " Hallway duty " (patrolling the hallway to make sure students get to class on time) in between classes at her high school. Explanation / Answer
My initial reaction is in favour of teacher. It is the mistake of student only, the teacher need not to be punished. The student should be given punishment and should apologise to the teacher for making such a rubbish mistake. Such leaks of the pictures in the society may lead to some severe damage in a girl's life. So what I feel like is that the school staff and the goverment should be in favour of the teacher and the student should be punished in such a way that no one else can even think of doing anything like that. Everyone has the right to store any kind of stuff in his/her personal devices and no one has the right to touch anyone's personal device without the permission if the owner. The student should have given the mobile back to the teacher without even looking whats inside it.
a) Reactions being the teacher:
It really feels certainly embarrasing if some of your personal stuff gets leaked in the public or the society. It is really very hard to face the society after such an incident. I would be very angry at the student who did this and especially the school staff who are blaming the teacher for all this but in actual the whole fault is of the student.
b) Reactions being the student:
Being the student who did all this, I would be very ashamed of all this, would have gone to the teacher and said sorry. I would be ready to face any of the punishment as what I have done is not right and need to do something to compensate for this.
c) Being student's parent:
I would not be in the best of the moods, as the child has done something very very wrong. Being the parent, I would have punished the child and set a precedent infornt of others like what would be the causes if someone does such a rubbish mistake. This kind of thing can spoil someone's future. I would be on the side of teacher.
