Question
NEGATIVE RESPONSE (BUSINESS LETTER Ch. 6-8)
Assume you are Sidney F. Stein, partner in Stein, Hammer, and Price Professional Accountancy Organization. Timothy W. Black, the son of one of your best clients, has asked you for a favor that you must refuse. Tim apparently is the president of Alpha Gamma Psi, a student business honorary on the campus of Lane Community College. He wrote to you asking that you speak at a meeting on May 15 on the topic of careers in public accounting. You are very pleased to learn that Tim is studying business administration and that he is taking a leadership role in this organization. You're alos flattered that he thought of you. However, you must refuse because you will be attending a seminar in Portland, at which you will represetnt your accountancy organization. This seminar will focus on recent changes in tax laws as they relate to corporations. Your organization handles many corporate clients; therfore, it's something you don't feel that you can miss. Write to Timothy W. Black, President, Alpha Gamma Psi, 8190 West Seventh Street, Eugene, OR 97408.
I expec you to apply all the things you have been reading about and that I have commented on this far: proper format (including placement and spacing of essential parts), following directions (including your name!), and applying the chapter concepts as they relate to appropriate tone and organization. Pay careful attention to proofreading, specifically grammar, punctuation, spelling, and word usage.

Dear Mr. Timothy,
Hope this letter finds you in the best of your health and prosperity.
I am writing to thank you for making me feel honoured by offering an opportunity to speak at the prestigious Lane Community College. I admire the fact that you are studying business administration and hold you in great respect for the leadership role you have taken in the organisation. It is a pleasure for me to know that you considered me suitable for the role of speaker in your esteemed organisation and share my knowledge and experience with the respected delegates of the meeting. Public accounting is an area of high importance and students would greatly benefit by learning about the opportunities and careers in public accounting domain.
However, owing to my prior professional commitments, I am uncertain if I will be available to attend the meeting in the Lane Community College Campus on May of 15. I am delighted to share with you that I will be representing the “Stein, Hammer and Price Professional Accountancy” organisation at one of the reputable seminar in Portland on the very day. In this seminar, I will be addressing the delegates from across the industry representing the accounting fraternity on the key topic of recent changes in tax laws for the corporates. Apparently, I am hopeful that Mr. John Hammer from our organisation would also be the right person to speak on the subject of public accounting as he has vast knowledge and more than 20 years of diverse experience in the public accounting domain. I am happy to share his contact information with you. If suitable, you may consider reaching out to him.
Thank you again for the opportunity and I wish you all the best for the forthcoming meeting.
Sincerely,
Sidney F. Stein
