Pressure altimeter operates on the principle that average atmospheric decreases linearly with altitude . Where as Radio Altimeter measures absolute altitude based on the time required for a radio wave signal to travle from an airplane to the ground and back .
The conventional altimeter of airplane works by measuring the atmospheric pressure and compare it to a preset pressure value . The most commonly used altimeter is known as the three-point altimeter . This type of altimeter has a backgroung similar to a clock with number zero to 9 and three needles on the face.
