SHRM has identified that the business environment has become dynamic and evolving in nature. It is making the role and responsibilities of the HR professionals to be very challenging. Hence, to remain competitive and relevant in the ever changing business domain, they have to keep learning, implementing new ideas and growing so that they remain valuable for the organization. It is the reason, that SHRM has found it important to develop a competency model that should be followed by the HR professional as they face the new challenges. In this regard, achieving three competencies are critical for success.
A.
The first competency is consultation. It is the ability to help others in solving their business related problems and provide need based salutation. It creates a huge scope of opportunities if an HR professional becomes the master of consultation. Here, organization is driven by people and consultation services by the competent HR professionals, contribute to the successful organization. So, consultation in a very important competency to remain successful.
B.
The second competency is business acumen. It is the ability to read the business & latest trends, emerging needs and become prepared and ready the organization as well as per the emerging requirements. It makes the organization to be ready to deal with the threats and challenges. Besides, a good business acumen, can identify the emerging opportunities that can be capitalized. Hence, HR professionals should be an expert in business acumen to remain successful.
C.
The third competency is ethical practice. It is the competency that shapes the organizational culture and character of the organization. It builds the basics that values its stakeholders most. An HR professional, good in implementing ethical practices, builds a culture of sustainability and it adds to his reputation. It also develops a leadership quality in the HR professional. It makes HR professional to be more competent if ethical practices are followed and implemented in the organization.
