Hi,
It is better to measure the employee's performance based on productivity of the employee and not by restricting the certain websites and monitoring web usage. This is because if the employee is able to fulfil the company's expectations and able to mets its deliverables on time while doing web surfing and surfing other sites then the emplpyee should be given freedom for the same. Human beings are not machines. They need some break or some relaxation activity in between their work. This break can help them concentrate on their work in a better manner. Sometimes, some employees surf net occassionaly for removing the stress and can help them work peacefully.
If company completely cuts down web access for the employees below situations may arise-
a) If the Employees need to access websites for their personal use like booking ticket or paying online bill etc and if they need to do it during office hours, then they will not be able to do it and it may cause bad impact on their minds.
b) Employees may get stressed doing same work continuously over a long period of time.
c) If the brain does not get break for long time, it may not be able to concentrate properly
d) Sometimes some of these sites are social networking sites. These sites help employees being socialize and can get updates about their distant living friends and relatives.
e) Some of the sites help employees to look for other job opportunities which can help them find better employer who can offer better for their potential
f) Employees will not be able access sites for educational searches or scholar articles.
Strategies for maintaing trade secrecy-
1. Keep the trade secret files/folders in locked rooms with high security mechanisms.
2. The data which is available in the electronic form need to be protected using password and key mechanism.
3. Agreements with the employees- The employees should be made to sign the non-disclosure document and hence the employees wwould not be able toe share any information outside.
4. Monitoring the internet trafic that goes from office network.
