Question

1-What happens to the CDP information if you change the hostname on one of the routers connected to it and then watch it every 20 seconds over the next four minutes?

2- How would you adjust the frequency of CDP updates to be every 3 minutes? Give an appropriate command.

3-What layer does CDP operate at? How can we determine this from the current exercise?

4-Can you ping the router next to you? Why not?

5-List all of the encapsulation options available for these interfaces.

6-Research and explain the purpose of the CLOCK RATE .?

7-Draw a physical diagram of your group’s routers. Include port names, router model numbers, router names, and indication of which are DTE and DCE interfaces.

Explanation / Answer

2) The following command Specifies frequency of CDP update.
Router(config)# cdp timer seconds.

As per question we need frequency of CDP updates for every 3 minutes
Then,
Router(config)# cdp timer 180.

3)CDP runs over the data link layer.Because of this two systems which supports different network-layers can know about each other.

4)We know that CDP is a layer 2 protocol and it will pass between two switches. It only shows the IP addfress of the switch in the CDP packet but it doesn't mean we can ping it.

5)The standard Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) Ethernet Version 2.0 encapsulation.
Service access point (SAP) IEEE 802.3 encapsulation
The SNAP method, as specified in RFC 1042

6)The clock rate refers to the frequency at which CPU is running and used as an indicator of the speed. To define it sinmply,it is nothing but the speed of the link.
