Read "Minority Report" Science Adviser On the Future of Human-Computer Interactions and watch the Ted Talk posted within the article and address the following (inline or attachment submission):
1.What do you think about the statement "that the current UI is working just fine, and there are much more important matters to attend to"? Does that hold true for you as a possible future software developer?
2.How do UI designers need to change the way they think, and who they work with, in order to develop for these new interfaces?
3.The TedTalk was actually from 2010 (when some of you were just entering high school) - what do you think has now come to fruition in 2017?
4.Ideas on where UI development is heading?
5.What did you find most interesting from the video?
Explanation / Answer
If you have any problems, let me know in the comments and i will try to solve them.
With recent emphasis on AI technology, creating a new UI seems unimportant, hence, saying that “the current UI works just fine” isn’t an oversimplification but the basic truth. Yet, i feel that this should be an emphasis too. The UI is basically a bridge between our interaction with our computers and there is a need for a more organic, less machine UI that isn’t a tool that we use but the projection of our human intentions and interaction. If that bride is reconstructed with a broader scope in mind, we as software developers will benefit greatly from it in the coming future. And, it is a possible concept due to the constant advancement in our technology and our resources.
Programming, is an art in itself. Yet because programmers deal with numbers and values and their way of solving a problem is mechanical in nature and they need to collaborate with a more organic side of art like architects and painters, designers that represent the other half of the coin. This amalgamation would result is a more broader scope of ideas and implementation and given the nature of interaction between the two side of the brain, namely logic and artistic, a complete overhaul of our current UI can be achieved.
From 2010 to 2017 there hasn’t been much news in terms of the new UI or any such revolution but new ideas are being implemented on the top of our current person centric UI and no such findings have been posted or presented as a demo which points this research in the right direction or expands the boundary.
Heavy research is being conducted in the fields of human interaction. VR technology is what everybody is working towards with no near vision of a newer UI other than the video. However, each and every year, a new technology catches our fancy where some form of this interaction of man and a machine is implemented and hopefully in the coming future, more developers would consider working towards this goal. Technology that is capable to work for everybody where design is integrated from the very start to aid our interaction with machines.
Most interesting thing from the video was the demonstration of the UI they are trying to implement which showed the interface being 3d rather than linear and provided more of an interaction with our machines. And how it is able to break our 1 to 1 interaction with our machines and allow collaboration.
Hope this helps...
