Communication in the Energy Sector is critical. The purpose of this module is to provide students with the necessary competencies to be effective communicators.

Recall a time in which you used the 5 components of effective oral communication and it benefited you during the conversation? What was the conversation about? What did you say? How did the other person respond?

Additionally, recall a time in which you did not communicate effectively. Now that you have been exposed to the 5 components of effective oral communication, what would you differently? What would you say?

Explanation / Answer

To convey any kind of information from one person to other person communication is an important criterion. If any person was with the lack of communication information will not be forwarded properly and work which was assigned to us will not be completed. There are different types of communications like formal and informal, verbal and non-verbal, internal and external and oral and written communications. Every kind of communication plays a major task for completion or execution of our work. Among all these oral communication is one of the important because everything should be conveyed orally. Effective oral communication should be developed from the schooling onwards so that there will be more development when we grow up in our positions.

In past I used to attend many seminars regarding my projects and there are some seminars where every person in the panel used to appreciate me for my effective oral communication towards every aspect. At the time of seminar I used 5 components of the effective oral communication which gives me more benefits. Components like listening towards what the panel people are asking or what they are expecting from me, hone of tone, body language, word choice and way of conveying the message. During the time of communication I concentrated in every element of the oral communication so that I was more benefited. Conversation was about my project with the group of members. Firstly I listened to each and every member views towards the project. Secondly, I like to choose some of the words which will make my communication more effective and phrased some paragraphs to talk. Later, while conveying details I made eye contact with every person with good facial expressions. I also increased my voice which will be audible to every person in the room. Later I conveyed by details to the group members in appropriate way. In this way I said each and every point to the members that which satisfied them. They have responded in the positive way and I was also succeeded in my project.

I attended to another seminar that which became the disaster due to the lack of oral communication. While I was addressing the crowd I did not made an eye contact with them that which leads to the loss of project and I also murmured sometime within me due to the usage of some words that which are irrelevant to the subject that which I have chosen. I can clearly say that this mistake was because of not using the components of effective oral communication. According to me oral communication will be succeeded only because of using the elements that which makes the communication more effective.
