Question

Different performance metrics are appropriate for different application scenarios. In practice, most applications have constraints along many evaluation dimensions, but a smaller set may realistically dominate design decisions.

a) Give an example of a system where energy/operation is likely more important than task latency or operation throughput.

b) Give an example of a system where task latency is more important than operation throughput.

c) Give an example of a system where improving either or both of task latency or operation throughput does not increase the value of the system.

Explanation / Answer

A) Some systems are energy oriented in which latency and throughtput have no importance. for example Banking system, hospitals, companies, working with suppliers, customers. In all these system ENERGY or working of a system is more important than its performance time and its units of work(throughtput).sometimes there are the need of efficient system with less resource in which time and throughput doesn't matter.

B) In Real time system or Radar system and flight simulators latency is important matric with regard the other aspect like throughtput. in these systems a quick response is required so throughtput has no value.some other examples are musical instruments if latency increases by 100 milliseconds make it difficult for worker to get the good feedback.

C) Deeper space communication the main motive is the communication not the time or throughtput.some other system where reuirement of user should meet or outout of a system shoulb be correct rather than its units per minute or its time to porepare a system.
