You are the Production Department manager at Kibby and Strand, and last month there were complaints from customers that the quality of the products shipped to them was lacking. Some stitching on T-shirts was weak and the sizes of socks did not meet specifications. The Operations Manager asks you to conduct a root cause analysis and report back to him your findings. Create a plan for how to conduct a root cause analysis to investigate this problem. Also, prepare a memo to the Operations Manager detailing how the steps in the article could be utilized in the organization to improve quality.

This plan and memo should be prepared in a single Microsoft™ Word document, and then attached to the unit discussion thread. There is no minimum or maximum in terms of the word count; however, the response should explicitly address all required components of this discussion assignment. The document should be prepared consistent with the APA writing style (6th edition) and reflect higher level cognitive processing (analysis, synthesis and or evaluation).  

Explanation / Answer

PLAN FOR ROOT CAUSE ANALYSIS:-

1. Initially, we need to analyis that in which production period the products were made for which the company has received the complaints (i.e. Stiching Problem)

2. After detecting the production period, we need to go through all the remaining stock and check whether they also have the same issue or not. If yes, then we need to eliminate that particular stock because we cant sell them to the customers.

3. Discuss the problem with the low level production labours and employees and aware them of the issue. Discuss the root cause for the same and try to solve it. If the problem is in raw materail correct it, if the problem is in the machine then try to solve it or if the problem is in the skills and knowledge of the new or existing employee then give them the required training.

4. After discussing the issue with the labour and employees, keep monitoring the production and operation process. So that if their is any mistake goes on can be corrected at the same time.

With this regularity monitoring and control we can again keep the production activity at the required and satisfactory level.
