Explanation / Answer

1. Motivation theories in their essence allow the manager to essentially understand the need for the organization's culture to deal with the factor of employee enrichment, management as well as act as the factor that provides the motivation when it comes to being able to perform as per the needs of the organization. It allows the manager to understand what drives an individual and therefore use this factor to promote employee's work output.

2. Maslow's needs theory states 5 basic needs of motivation which are:-

Self-actualization: which deals with the combined processes of all the factors which allow an individual to achieve the value factor in their lives. This can be satisfied by being motivated, Having a set goal and planning everything to be able to achieve it as a result.

Social need: which represents the need for communication as well as forming a sense of belonging with the others. This can be satisfied by involving in a group situation such as projects, teams as well as actively communicating with others.

Esteem: which takes into account the sense of recognition, achievement, and self-respect by the others. This can be achieved by results and achievements.

Physiological needs: which can be considered to be a necessity to sustain life. This can be achieved by being able to provide the basic needs and being competent enough to earn them.

Safety needs: which can be considered to be the needs such as financial security, job security as well as health considerations. This can be achieved by being able to create practices which allow the processes that regard the safety of individuals as being of the utmost importance and invoking processes such as insurance and Healthcare benefits.



3. The assumptions that theory X has about the people at work is that they are highly unmotivated and therefore requires constant supervision and intervention of the manager. While, theory Y assumes that the employees are self-motivated in order to perform better and contribute to the throughput of the company, without the over the intrusion of the organization.

It relates to Maslow's hierarchy with our assumption that it provides managers with the values that drive the individualistic value and what motivates an employee to perform better.

4. The three needs that McClelland identifies are:-

Need for achievement: which represent the different factors that people consider to create the feeling of achievement.

Need for power: which represents the actual influence that one holds over the other.

Need for affiliation: which represents the need for belonging to the people in a personal and professional setting.
