Organizational Plan of the MRI Unit
The organizational structure of the outpatient MRI must be in alignment with that of the overall hospital. Usually hospitals opt for functional organization structure which focuses on the functional efficiencies of the various units. A functional organization structure will have the following advantages:
The existing Director of Operations can be the leader of this functional unit. A manager can be appointed to work under him who will look after the operational efficiency of the unit. The manager can have 5 MRI technologists working under him looking after the various functionalities of the unit. The director will have direct reporting to the CEO.
The director along with the manager can plan upon the vision and mission of the unit. Having a dedicated vision and mission helps the unit and its members, to have a clear focus on the span of work and the plan of action. Care must be taken to align the vision and mission of the unit with that of the overall hospital.
The director also needs to decide upon the standard operating procedures to be followed in the unit. The SOP will set the standard framework to be followed for any process or procedure undertaken by the unit. The MRI Technologists need to know these SOPs by heart, which will facilitate their working in the unit.
There must be functional association of the MRI unit with the following units of the hospital:
The manager will be responsible for overseeing the operations of the unit and conducting appropriate work allocation. He will be reporting to the director of operations regularly to keep him in sync with the daily operations and workload of the unit.
