Question
Design a biometric access control system for a college classroom. Make sure you cover each of the areas in the grading rubric (shown below) for this question (48 points total). Your answer should include an initial paragraph about the design, then you can discuss in paragraph form, or simply discuss after each of the bulleted items. As always, be sure to include enough detail for full points 1. a. Grading Rubric i. Discuss each of the following and how it pertains to your decision (8 points for each): 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Cooperative vs. Non-cooperative Overt vs. Covert Habituated users vs. Non-habituated Attended vs. Unattended Controlled vs. Uncontrolled Open vs. Closed i. Discuss each of the following in regards to your choice for the biometric modality (8 points for each: 1. Universality 2.Uniqueness 3. Permanence 4. Measurability s. Performance 6. Acceptability 7. Circumvention Discuss at least two other biometric modalities that you decided not to go with (ie discuss iris/face if you chose fingerprint) and discuss why you didn't choose them (20 points each) ill.Explanation / Answer
A biometric system is a technological system that uses information about a person (or other biological organism) to identify that person. Biometric systems rely on specific data about unique biological traits in order to work effectively. A biometric system will involve running data through algorithms for a particular result, usually related to a positive identification of a user or other individual. The specific nature of today’s biometric systems is associated with a specific use of the term "biometrics." In general, biometrics is any use of biological data in technology. Biometric systems focusing exclusively on the identification of humans have become the major kind of biometric system in today’s IT world. Biometric systems is one of the most secured system which can used in different application area such attendance system in offices, security applications and many more. In this particular problem we are discussing about college classroom, first of all we must decide what is the role of college classroom for example :-
Now for all this activities what is role of biometric systems its very simple our biometric system will restrict unauthorized access to the classroom.
Grading rubric
2.
For the above discussed system we can take thum impression of the user as part of the password for the particular application.
1. Universiality
As we all know that a thumb impression can be universial parameter throught the users of diffrenet age group and so on.
2. Uniqueness
Thumb impression as biometric parameter is diffrent/ unique for all users, two persons can never have the same thum impression.
3. Measurability
there are various methods to do arithmetic operations on the thum impression as biometric parameter, hence we can measure this biometric feature.
4. Performance
Performance wise this biometric feature works well when we take multiple impressions of this feature and the average and use it for the said purpose.
5. Acceptability
This biometric feature very common and thats why it is easiliy accepted by all.
Ther other two biometric feature that is retina and face recognition which we are not using in this sytems because they are vulnerable to frequent chnages which may lead to system failures.
