1) select one guideline that makes perfect sense and seems easy to incorporate into a design, and select another guideline that is much less clear requiring further explanation or analysis to incorporate into a design. Share these ideas with the class on this discussion board and don't forget to comment on one other student's post.
Explanation / Answer
The design principles give great insight on various aspects of quality management to maximize impact and reach, and in turn deliver an extraordinary product.
Guideline that makes perfect sense: Direct Manipulation
The action of using fingers to zoom in and zoom out has become a requisite. This is an excellent yet simple illustration of Direct manipulation. With the advent of technology and the rise of thousands of smart phone telecommunication, direct manipulation is its natural consequence. Direct manipulation is one of the central concepts of graphical user interfaces (GUIs) and is sometimes equated with “what you see is what you get” (WYSIWYG). These interfaces combine menu-based interaction with physical actions such as dragging and dropping in order to help the user use the interface with minimal learning. Direct Manipulation further engages people and gives a sense of being one with technology.
Guideline that is much less clear: Aesthetic Integrity
Any user of technology can vouch for the importance of aesthetic integrity. Aesthetic integrity refers to how well an application is intergrated with its function and look. A scattered and unorganized application defers users, especially with the existence of so many well defined high level applications. Although this seems easy, it is not clear as to what works to be aesthetically integrated. A programmer may think that a picture should appear after a swipe, but the user may feel that a tap should make the picture appear. A productivity application should keep decorations to be subtle, but you cannot define what is subtle and what is considered extravagant. In the same way, a video game entails high graphics and concentration on minute decorative details, but a programmer cannot decide the extent of use of such graphics. This can only be achieved through extensive research of market trends and other factors.
