Theoretically, the Use Cases can be used instead of User Stories in order to express the business requirements. But there are some risks that are associated with it like, Compromised innovation as use case brings more details before even getting the feedback on the on the product. This compromises time as well as value. So companies do not prefer Use Cases over User Stories.
UML diagrams are not very much essential in agile teams. An agile team can choose to use UML diagrams by keeping those UML diagrams up to date and not keeping in mind the agile principle which says about Simplicity i.e the art of maximizing the amount of work not done is essential. So, it would be wasteful to keep UML diagrams up to date. That's the reason UML is separate from Agile.
Yes, use cases are strictly used with UML while user stories are basically used in agile/scrum method. Theoretically, the use cases can be used in Agile but it compromises and risks the benefits of Agile. On the other hand, user stories and acceptance criteria help the companies to drive the benefits from the Agile approach.
