I think the biggest challenge in EHRs is the lack of data quality. From the given essay we can identify that during the meeting of Premier Inc’s Data Alliance Collaborative, which included representatives from 12 of the largest health systems across the country, the organizations have gone farther in terms of setting infrastructure and governance. Most of them have adopted the strategy to have enterprise data warehouse, and combining claims, clinical and supply chain data. The organizations create enterprise-wide data warehouses and dump data in massive amounts without understanding the effort required behind storing and converting it to useful data. There are huge challenges to match the data with the right patient and the right physician. The difficulty in getting appropriate data makes the data quality the biggest challenge. According to the essay around 50 out of 75 people interviewed ranging from executives down to analysts, has agreed that the biggest challenge is data quality. Even if data infrastructure and governance is ensured, data analysis becomes difficult when there is massive amount of data without quality. While considering all these factors it is evident that the bigger challenge is the lack of data quality in EHRs.
