Question
Do you agree or disagree and why? lr
Based on the analysis of Ford and Toyota in Chapter 1 of the Competing Values textbook, I would say that both Ford and Toyota have substantial value. However, I think Toyota has far more value than Ford for several reasons. The main reason is that "The value creation story of Toyota represents both ends of the core dimensions and dynamics of the Competing Values Framework" (Cameron, Quinn, Degraff, & Thakor, 2014, p. 19). Toyota was more successful than Ford because it "focused on the future and the past, the short run and the long run, quick results and long-lasting results, change and stability, transformation and incrementalism" (Cameron et al., 2014, p. 19). Toyota utilized lean production and in turn, set the standard for quality and efficiency in the automobile industry. Research studies show that the Toyota production system approach to thin is the key to growth and survival (Bayou & Korrin, 2008).
