(the window exercise) In this discussion board we will examine collaboration more in depth. posted 4 years ago (last edited 8 days aga 1. Let's apply the different approaches/strategies to manage conflict. Here's the situation: Joe came early to the library. Jane did, too. They both chose the table by the window Joe wants the window shut. Jane wants the window open. What would you do if you were in this situation? If they both want to STAY at the table next to this window (all conflicts come with some parameters, such as "no, we cannot overspend the budget"), then what would they do if they chose to: (For this example, neither of them is moving from this table.) accommodate? compete? avoid? compromise? collaborate? I ask Joe and Jane to collaborate with each other on the basis of the facts who came first . In this for half an hour window will be open and then it will be shut . So , both will be fullfill their need or demand. It will be a win -win situation for them. They will satisfy their ego too by doing this way.
I will suggest them the meaning of collaboration ( Both people will help each other) , compete ( fighting for one's part . It will be harmful for them) , compromise ( one party will have to accept the reality and give scope to other ) , Avoidance ( both should leave that place for someone else).
Accomodate means both will lower down their own benefits for others and settle their conflict .
