NOTE: Case study considered to answer the stated questions is “Friendly Assisted Living Facility”
Answer 1: Dr.Splient has an advantage of understanding the strategic need of the health canter but challenged to deal with the operational aspect which is like more of the project manager’s task. As Dr. Splient was living with his old aged parents and kind of busy with the day to day personal issues which makes him challenged to do proper project planning and lead the effort of the construction for an assisted living facility. Hence, being a CEO , Dr.Splient can give strategic direction to the entire organization but cannot deal with the tactical or operational issues, may not understand the need of the customer but Dr.Splient can show bigger picture of the organization to the customer or other stakeholders.
Answer2: In the case study “Friendly Assisted Living Facility”, the CEO and the board (executive team) along with the for profit subsidiary of the medical center together looked upon the funding and sponsoring of the project and the ownership was lying with Dr.Splient.
Answer 3: The potential stakeholders of the project are the old aged people who are going to use the facility along with the individuals or agencies that will help old aged people indirectly.
Answer 4: Running the entire program into small projects helps to define clear role and responsibilities based on the expertise to execute the assigned project but it becomes challenging to sum up a master program level plan. The real challenge begins when the actual execution of the program happens and it cannot be completed until all the small projects gets completed and are well synchronized. However, at program level communication becomes need to be transparent for the small projects; monitoring and controlling of the projects is also not easy when everyone aims for the milestone and same deadline. There will be an instance where because of the one project failure or lag, the other gets impacted and likewise it gets influenced at program level. In my view, it is fine to have the entire effort at program level because of the intensity of the stakeholders required.
