Question
The Putter Company produces cardboards on make-to-
order basis. It will take 5 weeks for all the cardboard
required for an MPS to be delivered to the manufacturing plant.
ATP - available to promise
(a) Prepare an MPS record for the process,
including the ATP information, using the following
data:
Weekly forecast = 100 units
Current on-hand quantity = 0
Booked customer orders (already confirmed):
95 units in week 1
105 units in week 2
70 units in week 3
10 units in week 5
MPS of 200 units to be completed in
weeks 1, 3, 5 and 7.
(b) Sales requires an order of 250 units for week 4 to be
authorized and the client doesn't want a partial fulfillment. Why, or why not, should the scheduler accept?
(c) Now it is week two. New booked orders are:
80 units in week six
100 units in week seven
Assume that the client providing the 250 unit order in part (b) has
changed their mind and will accept their order for week 8. Prepare a
new MPS record for the 8 week planning horizon and decide if the 250
unit order can be booked. Discuss your reasoning.

b. If the cumulative lead time for item #2400 was 8 weeks, the master scheduler should look at the available in week 9. Since it is negative, he/she should release a new MPS quantity. That is, there is an implied time fence at the end of week 8.
