Question

Many students are simply not honest with themselves and do not sacrifice the necessary time needed to complete such a task. We want everyone to pass, but that is not a reality because students are unwilling to make the changes for whatever reason. Once research is complete—they cannot go back. If it is biased, then the bias comes from the student and not the institution. That is where most of the horror stories come from because the students were unable to remain objective during the research process and tainted the research or they did not do a comprehensive literature review and it led to series of shortcomings in logic when it came to the narrative portion. My bibliography was over 15 pages long and none of those texts were assigned to me. I spent hundreds of dollars on books and materials to make sure I was fully versed in my field. I probably read 25 dissertations, 40 books, and hundreds of research articles before I typed one word on the computer. Of course, this reading spanned over 5 years, but many students think reading five dissertations and ten research articles are going to pass mustard. It simply is not going to be enough. As you begin to build your bibliography, please think about how you are going to make time reading all of these articles and dissertation. In what ways are you going to keep this information manageable?

Explanation / Answer

Ans - It is abosloutely true that many students nowadays taking shortcuts to make dissertation which often lacks quality. Dissertation often takes a lot of time and a lote of planning. If I had to prepare bibilography , I would proceed with the following steps

a) Topic

Research and start thinking on about what i would i like to write about. For this , I would consult as soon as possible with mu supervisor for advice on the extended scope of my dissertation.

b) Planning and research

I will work out a timetable and esnure that i stick to it. I do not like to keep things till the last minute. There will always be problems on materials , delays in receiving replies to letters and questionnaire. I would also consult with my supervisor and draw up an initial reading list, making sure that this is wide reaching, relevant and uo to date as possible.
